Blackhorse Film Productions and Bootstrap Films Ltd have announced the launch of their new feature film ‘Spider’s Trap’ on 9th August 2014 in the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin. The crime drama is set on the streets of Dublin.

An independent Irish production written and directed by Dubliner Alan Walsh (‘What If’), the film features a stellar cast including Simon Delaney (‘Delivery Man’), Liam Carney (‘Gangs of New York’), Sarah Carroll (‘Love/Hate’), Glen Baker, Alan Sherlock, Dermot Magennis, Jane Elizabeth Walsh and newcomer Aislí Moran (‘Noble’).

Steve Wilson (Glen Baker), a former criminal with a talent for cracking safes, has finally got his chance to make things right. As he sits on the edge of a record deal, childhood friend and brutal manipulator Jack Spider (Alan Sherlock) delivers an ultimatum to drag Steve back to a life he left behind. Tense, fast-paced and frightening, the film delivers a fresh take on film noir.

“The talented team of filmmakers who worked on ‘Spider’s Trap’ have brought this thrilling story to the screen,” says John Phelan of Bootstrap Films. “To create an independent Irish feature film on a shoe-string whilst using a new template and approach is incredibly exciting. We are looking forward to launching the film in the heart of Dublin city, where much of the filming took place.”

Shot in black and white, ‘Spider’s Trap’ turns standard film production on its head. Almost 80% of the crew consisted of students and recent graduates from film colleges around Dublin. This ground-breaking approach to the making of the film was developed to nurture the talent of young Irish filmmakers. Some of the key crew members included DOP Matt Skinner, sound recordist Raymond Cross and editor Mario Bortas.

Celebrating its tenth birthday in 2014, Bootstrap Films is an independent production company committed to the development of Irish and international writing and creative talent. ‘Spider’s Trap’ marks the first partnership between Bootstrap Films and Blackhorse Film Productions, a full service provider of film and video development based in Dublin.

The launch screening of ‘Spider’s Trap’ is on Saturday 9th August 2014 at 11.45am in the Lighthouse Cinema, Smithfield, Dublin 7.
