Warner/Chappell Looks to the Future
15 Jul 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Warner/Chappell Music, the global music publishing company of Warner Music Group, is home to a wide array of legendary songwriters, a rich catalogue of contemporary hits and influential standards, as well as a vast high-quality production music library. With a joint sync/production music team in the UK and Ireland the publisher provides music for TV, advertising, radio, film and corporate productions to fit all budgets.

Warner/Chappell works alongside music users in all areas of the media – from advertising agencies to indie film makers, TV editors to radio producers. Pete Beck, Creative & Licensing Executive and Carly Spratt, Music Consultant at Warner/Chappell state: “Our aim is to make sure they have access to all areas of our vast catalogue, by pairing our creative services and in depth industry knowledge alongside a friendly and realistic attitude to music licensing. By joining our production music catalogues with our commercial publishing teams, we are able to accommodate all clients, briefs and budgets.” IFTN speaks to Pete and Carly about the future of the firm.

Why do you believe 2014 is a good time to enter the Irish market?
“Licensing and sync is a rapidly growing area of the music industry. However, the focus has traditionally been on London based business. We believe everyone should receive the same level of service from our team, regardless of whether they’re based in Camden or Glasgow, Manchester or Dublin.

“We’ve been over to Ireland recently and found that clients are starting to see business pick up, we offer a range of services that cater for all budgets so we can help all clients and help be a part of building the industry back up.”

With offices in more than 40 countries and administration of the world’s leading artists – what is the secret to Warner Chappell’s success?
“Our talented songwriters, and the passionate and creative teams that support them. Without our writers, we would be nothing, and Warner/Chappell has looked after some of the most important and successful songwriters and composers in the history of popular music. Whilst traditional licensing is our day to day, our UK sync team is constantly searching for new and creative ways of working with brands and content producers who feature our music. The more flexible and innovative we can be now, the more success we will have in the future.”

The Irish broadcasting landscape has changed dramatically with the introduction of UTV adding to an already congestion market. How do you perceive this change and do you believe it provides Warner Chappell with an opportunity?
“Every new broadcaster or media producer presents an opportunity for our sync teams at Warner/Chappell and we look forward to working with new media partners.”

Finally, for an Irish company looking to avail of your services – what is your unique selling point?

“As a joint team that can draw from a vast catalogue or commercial tracks and high quality production music, we’re confident that we can find a piece of music to fit almost any brief. The commercial catalogue is one of the oldest around and looks after a wide array of music from across the history of pop music right up to the new releases from today’s hottest new artists, whereas the production music catalogue has hundreds of thousands of high quality tracks – from orchestral film scores to breakbeat stabs, all licensed via the MCPS rate card. Whatever your budget or your musical need, we will walk you through the process – for FREE – and find a track that works.”

Warner/Chappell have also just announced they will be the official music partner for the Kinsale Shark Awards and Young Sharks Awards, taking place 11th-13th September in Co. Cork.
