'Gold'
Irish firm Wildcard Distribution has picked up a bundle of titles including Galway Film Fleadh features ‘Gold’ and ‘Get Up and Go’ (as previously reported on IFTN). Deals have also been confirmed for rom-com ‘Standby’ starring Brian Gleeson and and most recently, Ian Power’s ‘The Guarantee’.

‘Gold’ is a family drama directed by Niall Heery and written by Niall with his borther, Brendan Heery. ‘Game of Thrones’ star and 2014 Screen International Star of Tomorrow, Maisie Williams, stars in the film alongside David Wilmot, Kerry Condon and James Nesbitt.

Produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch and Aoife O’Sullivan for Subotica, the film will screen in its premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh tomorrow and is scheduled for a cinema release this year. The offbeat comedy is about an estranged father who returns to his hometown after an absence of ten years in order to reconnect with his daughter and ex-wife.

The Irish/UK rights for ‘Standby’ were acquired from Magnolia Pictures International, who acquired the world rights to the film last May. Starring Jessica Paré (‘Mad Men’) and Brian Gleeson (‘The Stag’), the feature debut from brothers Rob and Ronan Burke (‘Runners’, ‘The Importance of Being Whatever’), was written by Pierce Ryan and produced by John Wallace for Black Sheep Productions.

‘The Guarantee’ goes into production this summer and is directed by Ian Power (‘The Runway’). The film recreates the drama surrounding when the Irish government decided to guarantee the entire domestic banking system. Written by Colin Murphy and based on his stage play, it is being produced by John Kelleher Media in association with the BAI, the Irish Film Board and TV3. Wildcard has acquired worldwide rights for the film. More can be read about the film here.

‘Get Up and Go’ will have its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh. Written and directed by Brendan Grant and starring Peter Coonan (‘Love/Hate’) and Killian Scott (‘Calvary’), the film tells the story of two friends in Dublin in their late 20s whose dreams of artistic greatness haven’t quite worked out.

Wildcard has also taken on the promotion of Irish Film Board funded short films and is due to work closely with the IFB and the filmmakers on marketing and promoting those films at international film festivals.
