The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced details of its partnership with the Galway Film Fleadh 2014.
The BAI continues to be a co-sponsor of the “Galway Film Fair” a series of special events and workshops aimed at film makers and producers including the popular “Marketplace” that co-ordinates pre-scheduled meetings between filmmakers and invited Film Financiers, Distributors, Sales Agents, Broadcasters, Film Funds and Major Producers.
The Fleadh screening programme also features a number of films and documentaries made with production funding from the BAI Broadcasting Funding Scheme: Sound & Vision II. The films include ‘Gold’, ‘One Million Dubliners’, ‘An Bronntanas’ and ‘It Came from Connemara!!’.
‘Gold’ is a family drama from director Niall Heery (‘Small Engine Repair’) which features emotive performances from a cast that includes David Wilmot, James Nesbitt and Game of Thrones’ Maisie Wiiliams. ‘One Million Dubliners’ explores life, death and the afterlife, and is directed by Aoife Kelleher and produced by Rachel Lysaght. The feature will be receiving its World Premiere at the fleadh.
‘An Bronntanas’ is a contemporary thriller, which is set against the background of a local independent lifeboat crew working off the coast of Connemara. Directed by Tom Collins (Kings), the film was chosen to close the film fleadh. Lastly, ‘It came from Connemara!!’ is a documentary on Hollywood producer Roger Corman’s time in Connemara (read more about Brian Reddin’s feature here).
Michael O’Keeffe, Chief Executive of the BAI said; “We are very pleased to continue our support of the Galway Film Fleadh in 2014. The Fleadh continues to provide a unique opportunity in Ireland for people from the broadcasting and film production communities to network and develop ideas. We are also pleased that a number of BAI funded projects will be screened at the Fleadh and wish the producers of those projects the best of luck.”
