Element Pictures Distribution has announced that Gerard Barrett’s ‘Glassland’ will have its World Premiere this July as part of the 26th Galway Film Fleadh. The film will receive an Irish release afterwards this autumn.

‘Glassland’ tells the story of a young taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld, who in an effort to save his mother from addiction and unite his broken family, is forced to make a life changing moral decision.

The formidable cast is led by IFTA-winning Jack Reynor (‘What Richard Did’), who will next appear in Michael Bay’s blockbuster ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’, which is out on July 5th, and recently wrapped on Justin Kurzel’s ‘Macbeth’, which also stars Michael Fassbender.

The cast also stars Golden Globe award-winning and Oscar-nominated actress Toni Collette (‘Sixth Sense’, ‘Muriel’s Wedding’, ‘Little Miss Sunshine’), the 2014 BAFTA Rising Star winner Will Poulter (‘Son of Rambow’, ‘We’re the Millers’ ‘Chronicles of Narnia’) and award winning Northern Irish actor Michael Smiley (‘A Field in England’, ‘The World’s End’).

‘Glassland’ is Barrett’s second feature film following the hugely acclaimed ‘Pilgrim Hill’ which wowed audiences at the Galway Film Fleadh and across the world two years ago. The Fleadh acknowledged Barrett’s debut by awarding him the inaugural Bingham Ray New Talent Award and he then went on to win the IFTA Rising Star Award in 2013. Now promise is fulfilled, with his return to the Fleadh for the World Premiere of his stunning second feature.

Director Barrett commented that “The Galway Film Fleadh gave my debut film ‘Pilgrim Hill’ a platform, and it’s a privilege for me to go back and launch my second film ‘Glassland’ there. Miriam and Gar played their part in launching my career and it’s a great honor to return where new filmmakers are valued and encouraged.”

‘Glassland’ is written and directed by Barrett and produced by Ed Guiney (‘Frank’, What Richard Did’, ‘The Guard’) and Juliette Bonass (‘Get Up and Go’) for Element Pictures in association with Barrett’s NINE. The film is financed by the Irish Film Board and Element Pictures Distribution who will handle the film in the UK and Ireland. Executive producer is Andrew Lowe.

The feature film will screen at 8pm on Friday July 11th.
