Submission Deadline for the Fingal Film Festival Approaches

June 30 is the final day of the submissions for the 2014 Fingal Film Festival, which will take place in Movies@Swords from September 26 – 28.

The annual festival has tripled its submissions from last year with films comprising of documentaries, feature films, animations, short film, Irish language films and student films, which have been placed in front of the selection committee. There are eight awards up for grabs this year including Best Short Film; Best Feature Film; Best Irish Language Film; Best Documentary; Best Student Film; Best Animation; Best Fingal Newcomer; and Best International Film.

The prizes, which will be presented at an awards ceremony on the final night of the festival, have been sponsored by organisations such as Cannon, BAI, Swords Express, TG4 and Film Equipment Hire Ireland who will sponsor the award for Best Irish Language Short Film where the winner will receive equipment hire worth €3,000 for a 3 day shoot, with the resulting film to be broadcast on TG4.

Dublin based Animation Company Boulder Media (The Amazing World of Gumball) will host the Animation Workshop, led by Emmy nominated Creative Director Robert Cullen. Previous industry experts who have participated in the festival include multi-award winning animators Brown Bag Films, Bafta winning writer and director Aisling Walsh (Song for a Raggy Boy), former president of the Irish Society of Cinematographers Ciaran Tanham (Northanger Abbey) and award-winning producer Arthur Lappin (In America).

Commenting on the submissions process Festival Director Liz Kenny said: “It has been an unprecedented year for submissions. The introduction of our Irish language section has seen us inundated with Irish language films. We believe this year will cement the Fingal Film Festival in the “Festival Landscape” as our profile both in Ireland and internationally has grown from strength to strength.”

The Festival is also screening at various venues throughout 2014 as part of new initiative called ‘Fingal Indi Films on the Move’, which will feature winners and screeners from 2013. Further information on the locations is available here.

The Festival screenings and workshops will be held at Movies@Swords in the Pavilions Centre, Swords this year and promises to screen some of the best local and international films from around the world from September 26 – 28, 2014.
