Gerard McCarthy Cast in BBC Comedy Series ‘Puppy Love’
15 May 2014 : Aisling Newton
Northern Irish actor Gerard McCarthy has joined the cast of BBC Four’s upcoming six episode comedy series ‘Puppy Love’.

‘Puppy Love’, directed by Susan Tully, tells the story of Nany V and the dog training classes she runs in Wirral. The comedy follows two very different women - Nana V and Naomi Singh as they navigate their headstrong dogs, impossible teenage kids and disappointing husbands. McCarthy will make a guest appearance in one episode alongside Tobias Menzies (Outlander). McCarthy will play Damon Peachey while Menzies has been cast as Alexander in the comedy series created by Joanna Scanlan & Vicki Pepperdine, who previously wrote medical comedy Getting On for BBC Four.

McCarthy is currently playing Kevin McSwain in BBC 2's ‘The Fall’ starring Emmy and Golden Globe winner Gillian Anderson and Irish actor Jamie Dornan. On Netflix he can be seen alongside Sir Derek Jacobi, Neve Campbell and Joely Richardson as Ashley Stokes in ‘Titanic: Blood & Steel’, a 12-part series charting the extraordinary construction of RMS Titanic in the shipyards of Edwardian Belfast. McCarthy has also featured in Michael Hirst’s ‘Vikings’ starring Gabriel Byrne where he played the character Broadsted. His other credits include Samson Films’ ‘Belonging to Laura’, ‘Hollyoaks’ and ‘A Nightingale Falling’, his first feature film which is due in cinemas later this year.

‘Puppy Love’ was originally commissioned back in July 2013 by then BBC Two and BBC Four Controller Janice Hadlow and the BBC’s Controller of Comedy Commissioning Shane Allen. Selina Borji, Simon Fisher-Becker and Aron Julius have also been cast in the series, executive produced by Saurabh Kakkar and David Baddiel. Other guest stars lined up to feature in the comedy series include Mark Lews (37 Days), Kayvan Novak (Woody) and Russell Barr (About A Boy).
