Emma Stone for Next Woody Allen Film
Emma Stone joins Joaquin Phoenix in the cast for Woody Allen’s next film. The 25 year old actress is the female lead of ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’, which is in cinemas now. While the project will mark the first time Allen has cast Phoenix, Stone previously worked with the director on his most recent film, ‘Magic in the Moonlight’, which is currently in post-production.

The latest Woody Allen project is currently untitled, though it is expected that Allen will write, produce and direct it, as he has with most of his films. Plot details are unknown though it is believed shooting will begin in July. The film has no distributor, but Sony Pictures Classics is a front-runner as the firm distributed some of Allen’s latest films.

Woody Allen is the director behind ‘Annie Hall’, ‘Midnight in Paris’ and ‘Blue Jasmine’. He has won four Oscars over his career, awarded as both a director and a scriptwriter.

‘Spring Breakers’ Sequel in the Works
A sequel to ‘Spring Beakers’, a crime-drama about four college girls who take extreme measures to ensure they have the best spring break vacation possible, has been confirmed. ‘Spring Breakers: The Second coming’ will not feature the old cast of James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Selena Gomez, but will showcase a new group of girls battling against a group of militant Christians who are trying to convert them.

Irvine Welsh (‘Trainspotting’, ‘Filth’) will write the script, and Jonas Akerlund (‘Spun’, ‘Small Apartments’) will direct. They will be taking over from Harmony Korine (‘Gummo’), who wrote and directed the original film.

Production company Wild Bunch announced the news. The Paris-based sales and production powerhouse will bring ‘Spring Breakers 2’ to Cannes along with Irish features ‘Jimmy’s Hall’ and ‘Strangerland’ (read the full story here).

New Trailer for ‘Tammy’
A new trailer for ‘Tammy’, the latest comedy feature from Melissa McCarthy of ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘Mike & Molly’, has been released. The trailer portrays McCarthy, who plays the title role, attempt to ‘unrob’ a fast food restaurant by returning some money she stole from it, and reveals more about Tammy’s relationship with her mother, played by Susan Sarandon.

Besides McCarthy and Sarandon, ‘Tammy’ also features performances from Allison Janney, Toni Colette, Nat Faxon, Dan Aykroyd and Kathy Bates among other stars. The New Line feature was written by McCarthy with her husband, Ben Falcone. Falcone (who starred in ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting and ‘Enough Said’) also directs the film in his directorial debut.

‘Tammy’ hits Irish cinemas on July 4th, 2014. See the trailer below:
