'Jimmy's Hall'
Paris-based sales powerhouse Wild Bunch is heading to the Cannes Film Festival with a number of international titles, among them Irish-Australian co-production ‘Strangerland’ and ‘Jimmy’s Hall’. The latter film was chosen as part of the Official Selection in this year’s festival (read the full story here).

Wild Bunch is a major film distribution and international sales company which was founded in 2002. It has distributed and sold several Cannes and Oscar-winning films, including ‘Blue is the Warmest Colour’, ‘The Artist’, ‘Of Gods and Men’, ‘The Wrestler’, ‘The King’s Speech’, and ‘Old Boy’ among many others. The company manages more than 1700 titles and is also the international seller of Studio Ghibli’s works.

Wild Bunch will kick off world sales on Kim Farrant’s ‘Strangerland’, which stars Nicole Kidman, Joseph Fiennes and Hugo Weaving. New York-based Worldview Entertainment is a key financier on the feature, which was produced by Naomi Wenck of Australia’s Dragonfly Pictures and Macdara Kelleher of Irish-based Fastnet Films.

Kidman and Fiennes co-star as a couple whose teenage children go missing during a dust storm in a remote desert town in the Australian outback. Weaving plays the police officer in charge of the investigation into their disappearance.

The feature is currently shooting in the remote outback towns of Canowindra and Broken Hill. Irish crew members include cinematographer PJ Dillon, writer Michael Kinirons, sound recordist Robert Flanagan and photographer Ross McDonnell. More can be read about the production here.

‘Strangerland’ is the first feature of Farrant’s, whose works include the critically acclaimed documentary ‘Naked on the Inside’. Wild Bunch will handle world sales except for the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Wild Bunch has also acquired sales for several Official Selection titles aside from ‘Jimmy’s Hall’. Palme d’Or contenders ‘The Search’ by Michel Hazanavicius and ‘Two Days, One Night’ by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, ‘Goodbye To Language’ by Jean-Luc Godard, Gabe Polsky’s documentary ‘Red Army’, and the out-of-competition entry ‘Coming Home’ by Zhang Yimou are also on Wild Bunch’s slate.

Other significant films that Wild Bunch will be selling include ‘The Little Prince’, ‘Gentlemen’ and ‘The Tale of the Princess’. ‘The Little Prince’ is the $80m highly-anticipated feature length animation from Mark Osbourne. The film has already sold to the US, France, Germany, Japan and Russia, and Cannes will see its opening to all other territories.
