Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has been officially cast in the new ‘Star Wars: Episode VII movie’, which will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Mission Impossible).
Gleeson will join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the space opera reboot, which is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The new movie is based on a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Details of the highly anticipated seventh episode have been kept under wraps with only a photograph of the cast being released on the Star Wars Facebook page yesterday.
Abrams, Kathleen Kennedy and Bryan Burk are producing, with John Williams returning as the franchises composer. George Lucas will be serving as a creative consultant after Disney recently purchased his company Lucasfilm for $4.05bln.
Speaking about the upcoming film, Abrams said; "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
Gleeson, whose film credits include ‘Harry Potter’, ‘True Grit’ and ‘About Time’, is currently appearing in Irish cinemas in Lenny Abrahamson’s comedy ‘Frank’, and John Michael McDonagh’s ‘Calvary’.
Shooting is expected to commence on the ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ movie in Pinewood Studios, London in the coming weeks with a December 2015 release date scheduled.
