This year’s National Student Media Awards (SMEDIA), which take place on Wednesday April 9, are searching for new television presenting talent through their RTÉ TWO New Voices Award.
The New Voices Award, which was introduced this year, is sponsored by RTÉ TWO and organised by Eddie Doyle and Bill Malone of RTÉ Television. The award aims to find new, young presenters who can add to the diversity of Irish broadcasting and who can accurately reflect contemporary Irish life.
Along with the New Voices Smedia Award and trophy, the winning student will get a 4-6 week work placement in RTÉ TWO Television during the summer of 2014. During this time the student will be given mentored production training and on and off-screen experience in a variety of departments.
Students are invited to submit a showreel, which has been uploaded to Youtube, for a chance to win the award and career opportunity. The Youtube link must then be sent to smedias@studentmarketingnetwork.ie along with a CV or Bio by midday this Friday, April 4. Students must also include their name, phone number, email address and the college they are currently attending. The showreel should be no longer than 2-3 minutes in duration and should highlight their reporting and/or presenting skills.
The winner will be announced at the annual Student Media Awards, which will be held in the Ballsbridge Hotel on April 9. Other awards which will feature on the night include Film Script, Short Story, Radio Documentary, News Photographer, Short Animation, Features Writer and Journalist of the year, among many others.
Over 500 media students will be joined by celebrity guest presenters for the awards. MC’s on the night will include 'The Republic of Telly's' Kevin McGahern and 'The Viper', formerly of 'Hardy Bucks'.
