Dublin based Kavaleer Productions’ new children’s animated show ‘Wildernuts’ has been selected as part of the International Panorama for the Cartoons On The Bay International Television and Cross-Media Animation Festival, taking place in Venice, Italy from April 10 - 12.

Organized by RAI Publishing, the festival’s purpose is to promote the activities of writers and producers from around the world, providing an opportunity to meet with buyers, distributors and television producers.

Categories for submissions to the festival include TV Series for Preschool, TV Series for Kids, TV Series for Teens, Hybrid TV Series, Educational and Social Issues Work, TV Pilots, Advertising and Promotional Work, Interactive Animation and Short Films.

Kavaleer’s ‘Wildernuts’, which was animated in collaboration with Bait Studio in Wales, recently launched on RTÉjr. Created and directed by Kavaleer founder Andrew Kavanagh (‘Garth & Bev’), the series was co-directed by Aidan McAteer (‘Peppa Pig’), executive produced by Kavaleer’s Gary Timpson (‘Abadas’, ‘Lifeboat Luke’) and produced by Shannon George (‘Blue’s Clues’) and Jackie Leonard (‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’). ‘Wildernuts’ is distributed by Canada-based Tricon Kids and launches for international distribution in 2014. Gorilla Post Production provided voice recording, sound design, mix and online editing on all 26 episodes.

Gary Timpson, managing director of Kavaleer Productions, said: “The team and I are delighted that our preschool series ‘Wildernuts’ will form part of the Panorma Internazionale line-up at this year’s Cartoons on the Bay festival in Venice. To receive this recognition from a very established and well-respected festival is a strong endorsement of the series and the team that brought ‘Wildernuts’ to life.”

‘Wildernuts’ has also been selected for the Annecy Animation Festival which takes place in France from Monday 9th to Saturday 14th of June. The production is included in the official selection for TV Films. Other categories include Short Films, Commissioned Films and Graduation Films.

Russian animation will be the protagonist of the 17th edition of Cartoons on the Bay. Russian director Alexandr Petrov, Oscar winner for the animated short ‘The Old Man and the Sea’, will receive the Pulcinella Award for Lifetime Achievement. International jurors for the festival include Ivan Maximov, Igor Kavaliov and Vadim Sotskov.

Other Irish productions selected for the Panorama section are Monster Entertainment’s ‘I’m a Creepy Crawly’ and Geronimo’s ‘Planet Cosmo’. (Waiting on confirmation)

This year’s edition will be held at the prestigious location of Palazzo Labia, and in addition to the Pulcinella Awards, will include panel discussions, meetings, retrospectives and previews.
