Based on the Japanese novel ‘In Love with the Dead’ by Kei Oshi, the feature follows a lonely, death-obsessed young man who tries to make sense of the world by venturing closer to death. It stars Polyanna McIntosh, Robert de Hoog, Amanda Ryan, Emma Eliza Ryan and Declan Conlon.
‘Love Eternal’ screened at JDIFF, at which it won the Dublin Film Critics Best Irish Feature Award. The film also won the inaugural Fresh Blood Award at the Black Bear Film Fest in Warsaw (see the full story here).
The movie premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh last year and has screened at over 60 festivals and featured in a number of markets worldwide, such as the Sydney Film Festival and the market at Berlinale. It screened at Dingle’s Film Festival last March.
‘Love Eternal’ was filmed on location in Cobh, County Cork. Director of Photography for was Tom Comerford ('Savage') and it will be edited by Mairead McIvor ('Eamon', 'Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne'). Post-production on the feature took place in Luxembourg.
It was produced by Conor Barry, Morgan Bushe and Macdara Kelleher for Fastnet Films, and also by Manami Fukawa, Takeichi Honda, and Yui Shibata. Funded by the IFB, Film Fund Luxembourg, the Netherlands Film Fund, T.O. Entertainment Inc and Atlantic Screen Music Ltd, the film was supported by production companies Fastnet Films, which is Irish, as well as Atlantic Screen Music, Red Lion Sarl, Rinkel Film and T.O. Entertainment.
