Donal Foreman Wins IFB/JDIFF CineTALENT Award
26 Feb 2014 : Aisling Newton
‘Out of Here’ director Donal Foreman was crowned the winner of the CineTALENT Award at this year’s 12th annual Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF).

The Irish Film Board partnered with JDIFF, Universal Pictures and Screen International to host the CineTALENT Award for the second year running. This year’s award puts emphasis on the collaborative nature of the filmmaking process with nominations coming directly from production companies or distributors with the Irish season.

Foreman was chosen by a public vote hosted on the JDIFF website over the festival period and was announced as the winner yesterday, Tuesday February 25.

‘Out of Here’ is a contemporary coming-of-age story showing Ireland and its youth culture in a light not previously seen or explored. The film was crowd-sourced and received completion funding from the Irish Film Board. It was produced by Emmet Fleming for Stalker Films (King of the Travellers, Stalker). Foreman also won the Michael Dwyer Discovery Award from the Dublin Film Critics Circle for the film.

The director’s prize will include a profile from Screen International and networking opportunities at their events at the Toronto, Cannes and Berlin film festivals, as well as support and assistance from Universal Pictures and the Irish Film Board, with networking introductions to influential industry contacts with a view to securing the widest possible audience for the film. The prize will also crucially include mentoring opportunities from established industry professionals.

Other nominees for the 2014 CineTALENT award were Killian Scott (Calvary), Conor Barry (Love Eternal), John Butler (The Stag), Maureen Hughes (A Thousand Times Goodnight), Aoife Duffin (Out of Here) and Peter McDonald (The Stag) among many others.

Nick Ryan, director of ‘The Summit’, won the inaugural award in 2013, which went on to receive a very successful US, Irish and British theatrical release, along with a high-profile terrestrial television premiere in Ireland.
