It was third time lucky for Emmy winning production sound mixer Ronan Hill at the 50th Cinema Audio Society (CAS) Awards held at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angles on Saturday night.
Hill was there to pick up the CAS award for outstanding achievement in sound mixing for his work on ‘Game of Thrones: The Rains of Castamere’, and in a speech paid tribute to his father Patsy Hill, a renowned cameraman who was his inspiration.
Other winners on the night included ‘Gravity’, production mixer Chris Munro, who won for sound mixing in a live-action pic while ‘Frozen’, original dialogue mixer Gabriel Guy, was honoured for mixing in an animated film.
Hill’s ‘Game of Thrones: The Rains of Castamere’ was up against ‘Breaking Bad: Felina’, ‘Boardwalk Empire: Erlkonig’, ‘Homeland: Good Night’ and ‘The Walking Dead: Home’.
Hill has previously won two IFTA awards for ‘Hunger’ (2009) and ‘Kings’ (2008), and was nominated for his work on ‘The Eclipse’, ‘Five Minutes of Heaven’, and the first two seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’. Other credits include ‘Miss Julie’, ‘Starred Up’, ‘The Fall’ and ‘Hunger’.
‘Game of Thrones’ returns Monday April 7th at 9pm on Sky Atlantic HD.
