TV3 is less than a week away from airing its brand new game show, ‘The Lie’, a co-production between 3Studios and Scottish Television Productions (STV). The two studios developed the original idea for the show together, and the series is also unique in that for the first time, Irish viewers can play along live with ‘The Lie’ via TV3’s second screen companion app ShowPal.
‘The Lie’ is ‘a general knowledge game with a difference – there are no questions.’ It sees a team of two contestants try to survive a series of nine trying rounds, risking an increasing amount of money as they try to spot the lie. In each round, contestants are given a number of statements from a chosen category, varying from pop culture to current affairs, which include at least one lie. As they get closer to the jackpot of €10,000, the number of true statements increase and the lies become more difficult to identify. It is ‘a game of strategy, risk-taking and intelligence.’
The new game show was filmed in TV3’s Sony HD Studio in Ballymount. It is the first of a number of shows that TV3 plan bring to the screens in 2014 demonstrating the station’s increased investment and dedication to home production.
‘The Lie’ will broadcast on Irish TV screens on Monday the 17th February. TV3 will show ten 30 minute episodes, every Monday and Friday in a primetime 8pm slot.
The broadcaster and journalist Jonathan McCrea will host for TV3 while comedian Susan Calman will host the Scottish version of the game show. McCrea currently presents Futureproof on Newstalk 106-108.
Jonathan has said about his new role: “I'm really excited to be presenting Ireland's brand new quiz show, ‘The Lie’. I've always thought the best game shows are the really simple ones, where you don't get distracted by the rules. That's ‘The Lie’ in a nutshell; it's really easy to understand, but really challenging to play. This game is all about strategy and how much you can trust your partner on the day. The drama for the viewer is in watching people deal with the pressure when the clock is ticking and there's €10,000 up for grabs. The tension in the run-throughs has been almost unbearable... I can't wait until we play for real!”
For the first time, Irish TV viewers will be able to play along live with ‘The Lie’ via ShowPal. Just like the game show contestants, viewers can lock-in their own answers whilst playing against the clock. Viewers can also see how they fared against other ShowPal users by sharing their results on social media.
‘The Lie’ will be Executive Produced by Gary Chippington for STV Productions, by Andrew Byrne for TV3 Studios, and by Abigail Adams and Richard Foster for Group M Entertainment.

‘The Lie’ premieres on Monday 17th February at 8pm on TV3.
