Kavaleer Animation ‘Wildernuts’ to Launch on RTÉ jr
07 Feb 2014 : Aisling Newton
Dublin based Kavaleer Productions’ new children’s animated show ‘Wildernuts’ will launch on RTEjr this week.

Developed at Kavaleer’s studios, ‘Wildernuts’ was animated in collaboration with Bait Studio in Wales.

Created and directed by Kavaleer founder Andrew Kavanagh (‘Garth & Bev’), the series was co-directed by Aidan McAteer (‘Peppa Pig’), executive produced by Kavaleer’s Gary Timpson (‘Abadas’, ‘Lifeboat Luke’) and produced by Shannon George (‘Blue’s Clues’) and Jackie Leonard (‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’). The music is written by Darren Hendley (Olivia, The Octonauts) with theme music by Irish band Pugwash. The cast includes the voice talents of Paul Tylak and Sue Collins. ‘Wildernuts’ is distributed by Canada-based Tricon Kids and launches for international distribution in 2014.

Kavaleer are one of Ireland’s most respected animation studios. Founded in 2001 they’re internationally recognised as creators and producers of award-winning film, television, and interactive projects. Their new project ‘Wildernuts’ was previously acquired by Toronto's Tricon Films & Television to launch their Kids and Family division.

Gary Timpson, managing director of Kavaleer Productions, said: “We are confident that ‘Wildernuts’ will soon be entertaining kids all around the world.”

He went on to say: “Kavaleer are also developing ‘Tipto’, a 52 x 11 action comedy series for 6-11 year olds and our very latest creation is ‘Kira Khan Do’, a 52 x 11 minutes series for 4-6 year olds.”

Kavaleer Productions has won four Digital Media Awards and has been nominated for two IFTA awards - in 2003 for ‘The Depository’ and in 2010 for ‘Hasan Everywhere’.

Irish animation series ‘Punky’ will also return to RTÉjr this week with a second series of 20 seven-minute episodes. The original animated television series was created, written and produced in Ireland and was the first ever animated TV series in the world in which the lead character has Down syndrome.

The series was created by Lindsay J. Sedgwick, developed with and produced by Geronimo Productions (formerly Monster Animation & Design Limited) and supported by RTÉ Young People’s programmes. The first series has been sold in ten countries including Argentina, Brazil, South Korea, Turkey, New Zealand, Finland, the Netherlands, Qatar, Denmark and the US.

‘Wildernuts’ and ‘Punky’ were funded by RTÉ, the BAI, Irish Film Board and Section 481 and made by Irish animation companies. They now join other Irish and International animation favourites on the RTÉjr schedule.
