Three Irish Titles to screen at Berlin

'The Food Guide to Love' is set in Dublin
‘Calvary’, ‘The Food Guide to Love’ and ‘Last Hijack’ will be screened while other Irish films will be selling at the EFM.

‘Calvary’, starring Brendan Gleeson and written and directed by John Michael McDonagh, recently screened at Sundance where it was acquired by Fox Searchlight Pictures for a release in the USA (see the full story here and a trailer for the movie on youtube). The film will be screened five times in total, the times and venues of which are listed below:

  • Sunday February 9th 19.00 – Palast 1
  • Monday February 10th 10.00 – CinemaxX 7
  • Tuesday February 11th 14.30 – Cubix 9
  • Friday February 14th 21.30 – Zoo Palast 1
  • Sunday February 16th 20.00 – International (G)

‘The Food Guide to Love’, directed and written by Dominic Harari and Teresa de Pelegri, is a romantic comedy set in Dublin about the relationship that develops between an Irish food writer and a Spanish woman. The film was selected to be part of the Kulinarische Kino (Culinary Cinema) section of the Berlinale and will be screened on Tuesday February 11th at 10p.m. at the MGB-Kino (E).

‘Last Hijack’ will be shown as part of the Panorama Dokumente segment of the Berlinale. The film was funded by the IFB and had its animated sequences completed in Piranha Bar, based in Dublin. The Berlin Festival will be premiering the film, the full story of which can be read here. Below are the screening times and venues:

  • Friday February 7th 17.00 – Cinestar 7 (E)
  • Saturday February 8th 12.00 – Cinestar 7 (E)
  • Sunday February 9th 17.30 – Cubix 7 (E)
  • Monday February 10th 15.30 – Colosseum 1 (E)
  • Friday February 14th 14.30 – CineStar 7 (E)

Many other films, also funded by the IFB, will sell at the Berlinale's market, the European Film Market (EFM), where the Board will also have a stand.

Other films of Irish interest that will be sold at the EFM include ‘A Long Way Down’ starring Pierce Brosnan (the trailer for which was released recently and can be viewed on youtube) and thriller ‘The Free World’ starring Cillian Murphy.

Irish audiences can see ‘Calvary’ and ‘The Food Guide to Love’ at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival (JDIFF) where the films will be screening in February.
