What were the most popular Irish shows on television last year? The figures are in.

The most tuned-into Irish TV show this year was ‘The Late Late Toy Show’, with 1,547,400 viewers and a share of approximately 70%. The next most popular show was the series finale of crime drama ‘Love/Hate’ with 1,116,800 tuning in. The viewing of ‘The Late Late Toy Show’, which had its first show in November 1975, is a tradition for many Irish households. A fifth season has been commissioned for Dublin-based ‘Love/Hate’.

Another favourite on Irish TV this year was BAFTA-winning sitcom ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’, starring and created by Brendan Carroll. The Series 3 finale had 1,029,700 viewers on average with a share of 52.46%, while the show’s Christmas special, ‘Buckin’ Mammy’, had an audience of approximately 900,000 viewers and a 44.27% share. The TV show was also one of the most-watched shows in the UK this Christmas. Brendan Carroll prepares for feature film ‘Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie’, due for release through Universal in June.

Irish sport has again proved its immense popularity through the high viewership it achieved. The peak figure for viewers watching the AIB All-Ireland Club Football Final on TG4 was 337,900, making it the channel’s most tuned-into show for 2013. The GAA All-Ireland Football Championship Quarter-final in which Mayo beat Donegal was the most tuned into Irish show on TV3. It had a reach of 442,800. On RTÉ2, the All-Ireland Senior Football Final had a whopping share of 74.3% with 1,064,200 viewers. The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final had an average audience of 889,400 and a share of just over 64%.

Song competitions have also been consistently popular with Irish audiences for 2013. The Eurovision Song Contest and The Voice of Ireland had impressive numbers of viewers with an average of 809,500 and 759,700 tuning in respectively.
