Costume Designer Consolata Boyle Receives Costume Designers Guild Nomination for 'Philomena'
13 Jan 2014 : Deirdre Molumby

The film is about the journey an Irish woman embarks on with a journalist as they search for the child she was forced to give up by a nunnery when she was young. Judi Dench and Steve Coogan star.

Boyle will be competing with Suzy Benzinger (‘Blue Jasmine’), Casey Storm (‘Her’), Wendy chuck (‘Nebraska’), and Sarah Edwards (‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty’) for the award.

The Irish costume designer received her first nomination from the Guild in 2005 for her work in ‘The Lion in Winter.’ The TV series was based on a fictional story surrounding King Henry II and his wife, played by Patrick Stewart and Glenn Close respectively.

Boyle went on to win a CDG Award for her work in ‘The Queen’, based on Queen Elizabeth II’s reaction to the death of Princess Diana. Consolata Boyle also earned a BAFTA nomination and her only Oscar nomination for her costume design in the film.

Other credits to her name include ‘Byzantium’, ‘The Iron Lady’, ‘Tamara Drewe’, ‘Chéri’ and ‘Angela’s Ashes.’

Founded in 1953, the Costume Designers Guild ‘represents costume designers, assistant costume designers and costume illustrators working at the highest levels of skill and expertise in motion pictures, television and commercials.’ The Guild ‘aspires to raise the stature of the costume design profession within the entertainment community.’

The winners of the 16th CDG Awards will be announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 22nd.
