Movies@Dundrum to host premiere of O’Connor’s anticipated feature.
Singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey, who provided music for the film, will be in attendance. Leading cast members John Connors, Peter Coonan and Barry Keoghan, all of whom also starred in O’ Connor’s second feature ‘King of the Travellers’, will also be in attendance.
‘Stalker’ is a psychological thriller about the relationship that develops between an unstable homeless man and a young, abused boy which has frightening and devastating consequences.
The film has won the Underground Film Festival, won second prize at the Galway Film Festival in 2012, and has been selected for film festivals in North America. The film is also Ireland’s first crowd-funded feature film.
While the film was produced in 2012, the upcoming release will feature additional music, a new sound design and a new cut. A computer game Oliver the Stalker is be produced and will be released the same day as the film.
Director-writer Mark O’ Connor has said that “Stalker was born out of the political and social crisis in the country” , and that the hope was to explore taboo subjects such as homelessness and mental health in a way that would be both entertaining and thought-provoking.
Producer TJ O’ Grady Peyton has referred to O’ Connor as “a force to be reckoned with”, who is “one of the most distinctive and unique voices in Irish cinema.”
O’ Grady Peyton also commented that “there are so many creative and talented filmmakers making films of all sizes in Ireland at the moment. It's vitally important for them to be seen on home soil in the cinema as the film industry is not only important for our economy, but our culture.”
