In a first for RTÉ, the drama will be aired over four consecutive nights, commencing January 19th at 9.30pm.

Director Thaddeus O’Sullivan’s ‘Amber’ has acquired a international audiences in territories including North America, South America, Australia and Canada after UK-based distribution house Content Media secured a raft of international sales. Netflix has also acquired the series for its video-on-demand service in the US.

The new series was produced in 2011 and follows the lives of a family in Dublin’s suburbia, whose 14 year old young teenage daughter Amber goes missing.

Created by Rob Cawley and Paul Duane, each episode of the Irish crime drama ‘Amber’ is taken from the perspective of a single individual connected to the case. The show was inspired by Cawley's experiences working with the search and rescue teams for a series with RTÉ.

Paul Duane previously spoke to IFTN saying that the story taps into the national psyche about our traumatic last decade of grief, loss and damage. “The Irish audience was the one we had in mind most of all, so I’m dying to see how they react to it when it gets its Irish premiere.”

“It speaks to people all over the world which was our aim. It was intended as a show that would travel, although it’s set in a very specific part of Dublin. In order to be international, you’re best off making the details of ordinary life ring true, because they’re the same everywhere.”

‘Amber’ stars Eva Birthistle (‘Waking the Dead’) and David Murray (‘Raw’) as the parents of 14-year-old Amber Bailey, played by Lauryn Canny.

Co-creator Rob Cawley said, "the aim of ‘Amber’ is to impart to a general Irish audience the sense of loss, incomprehension and anguish a family feels when a loved one."

Director Thaddeus O’Sullivan won the IFTA award for Best TV Director in 2010 for HBO’s ‘Into the Storm’, starring Brendan Gleeson as Winston Churchill, for which he was also nominated for an Emmy.

Thaddeus was also nominated for the IFTA for Best Film Director in 2012 for ‘Stella Days’.

The producers of ‘Amber’ have said they intend to scatter additional footage, clues and goodies all around the Internet. Fans of the show can do their own investigation and analysis into the disappearance of Amber. Viewers can follow @DramaAmber on twitter for details.

‘Amber’ is due to air four consecutive events, commencing January 19th at 9.35pm. on RTÉ One and the trailer can be viewed here.
