The nominations for the British Film and Television Awards have been announced and Irish movie productions and actors have not gone unacknowledged.
For the Outstanding Debut by a Writer, Director or Producer Award 2014, Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, the writers of ‘Good Vibrations’, are nominated. ‘Good Vibrations’ recounts the true story of Terri Hooley, who opened a music store during the Troubles and was vital in the ignition of a punk rock scene in Belfast. The movie has already won an award for Best Screenplay at the Dinard British film Festival and won the Feature Film Award at the Galway Film Fleadh, the film was also nominated for the Irish Film and Television Awards.
Kieran Evans, director-writer (adaptation) of ‘Kelly + Victor’, has been nominated for the same award. Co-produced by Venom Films, the film is a drama about a couple who commence a dangerous, sexual relationship.
Romantic comedy ‘Orbit Ever After’, directed and written by Jamie Magnus Stone, has been nominated for Best British Short film in 2014. The film’s cast includes Irish actress Bronagh Gallagher.
Michael Fassbender has received a nomination for his role as Edwin Epps in ‘12 Years a Slave.’ Fassbender has often received critical praise for his ability to immerse himself entirely into the sub-conscious of what are frequently dark characters he plays. This performance marks Fassbender’s third nomination for a BAFTA.
