TV3 have announced the successful shortlist of production companies for the first TV3 soap/drama serial.
As reported on IFTN in October last year, TV3 invited tenders from production companies to present proposals with defined settings, with “community, medical, Garda-based or any precinct-type location” among just some the suggestions, with an aim to explore the lives of characters through “human drama, comedy, suspense and romance”.
The successful shortlisted production companies for the first soap/ drama serial on TV3 are:
Lime Pictures (UK)
Parallel Films (Ire)
Samson Films & Newman Street (Ire & UK Co-production)
Element Pictures & Company Pictures (Ire & UK Co-Production)
Touchpaper (Zodiak) – UK
One Productions – (Ire)
These were shortlisted from a list of eighteen proposals. TV3 hope to announce the successful company ‘early in the new year’.
“We have had a large mix of proposals ranging from hospital dramas to ideas based around Ireland’s blossoming tech sector. The majority of the successful applicants have submitted precinct style soaps based around the work of the Gardai and Fire services. There are also some surprising themes dealing with Ireland’s corridors of power and cross sections of Irish communities. TV3 are excited of the prospect of bringing a homegrown soap to Irish TV viewers and look forward to the next steps in the decision process.” – Owen McArdle (Head of IPU, TV3)
