TG4’s 'An Ceoldráma' Completes Post-Production
02 Dec 2013 : By Julie Browne
Gaelscoil kids prepare for a big musical performance in 'An Ceoldráma'.
The new documentary series, 'An Ceoldráma' (The Musical), which follows four Gaelscoils as they go head to head in the musical category of the All-Ireland Schools’ Drama Competition has completed post-production at Reelgood in Dublin.

The four-part series goes behind the classroom door to reveal what it takes to get a school musical on stage in one of the toughest categories of the Féile Scoildrámaíochta.

Inspired by documentaries such as ‘Spellbound’ and ‘Etre et Avoir’, this TG4 series offers an insight into what has become a rite-of-passage for thousands of Irish-language pupils across the country.

It features classroom and rehearsal footage, musical performances and interviews with teachers, students and parents as the students compete for a place for the National Finals in Mullingar.

The series follows one school from each province; Gaelscoil Ultain in Monaghan, Gaelscoil Charraig Uí Leighin in Carrigaline, Cork, Scoil Lorcáin in Monkstown, Co. Dublin and Scoil Náisiúnta Cholmcille in Connemara, Galway.

Produced by Inscéal, An Ceoldráma was filmed over the course of five months from January to May 2013 in locations in Dublin, Monaghan, Galway, Cork, Donegal and Westmeath.

It was filmed and directed by Colm Bairéad (‘Lorg na gCos’, ‘An tÁdh’) and produced by Cleona Ní Chrualaoi (‘Lorg na gCos’, ‘The Gathering: Homeward Bound’).

Editing was done by John Murphy (‘Showrunners’, ‘Bliain in Árainn Mhór’) in Lotus Media, grading was by Rory Gavin and sound mixing was by James Daly in Reelgood.

‘An Ceoldráma’ will be broadcast weekly on TG4 over four weeks from 12th January 2014.
