Wildcard Distribution is releasing documentary ‘The Swell Season’ - from ‘Once’ duo Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová – in selected Irish cinemas on the 6th December.
The documentary is directed by Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins and Carlo Mirabella-Davis, who also produced, with editing by Nick August-Perna and cinematography by Chris Dapkins.
‘The Swell Season’ follows Hansard and Irglová - who memorably won the Oscar for Best Song for ‘Falling Slowly’ in 2008 – on their tour around America, as their relationship develops and eventually comes under strain.
Filmed in black and white, the documentary looks behind the scenes of their two-year world and first premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June 2011 to positive reviews.
Speaking about the release, director Nick August-Perna said: ‘We are beyond thrilled and honoured to have Wildcard Distribution bring our film into Irish cinemas. Ireland provided a powerful setting for so many of the enduring moments in the documentary, so it is very exciting for us to come full circle and share the film with a wide audience here.’
