A feature documentary focusing on the Cuban Missile Crisis will air on Channel 4 subsidiary More4 this coming weekend.
Produced by Wicklow-based Crossing The Line Productions, 'Here Was Cuba' is the first major feature documentary on the subject, bringing to stark focus the 13 days in October 1962 in which the fate of the world ultimately rested in the hands of three men - Nikita Khrushchev, Fidel Castro, and John F. Kennedy.
The feature is co-directed by John Murray ('White Man, Dead Heart') and Emer Reynolds ('The Secret Life of The Shannon'), the latter making her directorial debut on the production, having also acted as editor.
The documentary features a combination of archived footage, document excerpts and revealing interviews with key witnesses and experts including Sergei Khrushchev, the son of the former Russian Premier. Notably, 'Here Was Cuba' features one of the last interviews given by one of JFK's most trusted advisors, Ted Sorenson.
Marking the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the film premiered to rave reviews at the 20th Sheffield Documentary Film Festival.
'Here Was Cuba' will screen on More 4 this Saturday, 16th November at 9pm. To view a trailer for the documentary, click below.
