Sporting documentary 'Beyond Limits: The Next Generation', which follows Irish Paralympians in the year following the success of the London 2012 games, has gone into post-production.
Produced by Athena Media, the documentary is a follow-up to the original 'Beyond Limits', broadcast just before the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, which saw Irish athletes return with a collective 16 medals.
'Beyond Limits: The Next Generation' will now see these success stories pass on their wisdom to the latest crop of hopefuls vying for a place in Rio's 2016 Games.
Presenter Mark Pollock, who lost his sight at 22 and went on to become the first blind man to reach the South Pole, will among others follow London medallists Jason Smyth, Michael McKillop, Catherine Walsh and Darragh McDonald as they act as motivators and trainers for the next round of athletes intent on Games glory.
McDonald, who was just 14 when he became a silver medallist at the Beijing games, emphasises the effect the wider publicity of Paralympian success is having. "The main analogy I used before London was that it felt like we were on the crest of a wave, and the wave kind of crashed down in London and I think perceptions are finally changing".
The documentary is produced and directed by Helen Shaw of award-winning Athena Media ('Winning Women', 'Get Off The Couch!'), with editing to be carried out by Barry MacNeill. When completed, the documentary is set to air on Setanta Sports.
