The Subtitle European Film Festival, which takes place in Kilkenny from 25 Nov -1st Dec, has unveiled its programme for this year including an eclectic mix of films from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France & Russia.
Last year’s inaugural festival played host to such special guests as ‘Game of Thrones’ Jaime Lannister (Danish actor Nicolaj Coster Waldau) and ‘The Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug’s Beorn (Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt).
Highlights of this year’s film line-up include Denmark’s ‘A Hijacking’; Norway’s ‘Headhunters’; France’s ‘The Intouchables’ and a special programme entitled ‘Resurgent Russia’ featuring such films as ‘How I Ended This Summer’ and ‘We Are From the Future’.
Guests confirmed to attend this year include Spanish actor Antonio de la Torre (‘Volver’); Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky (‘Vampire Academy’) and Danish actor Nicolaj Lie Kaas (‘The Killing’).
Artistic Director Richard Cook, said: ‘Many of the brilliant films and TV shows that have captivated us for the last few years have come from Europe – The Killing, Borgen and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, to name a few. Many of these have also gone on to be remade by Hollywood studios. Subtitle gives audiences the chance to see where all this filmmaking talent comes from.’
