‘The Lost Ship/'A Long Caillte’ - a new Tile Films/Alc documentary for TG4 investigating the wreckage of the Spanish Armada off the Irish coast - will shoot dramatic reconstructions in north Dublin.
Directed by Keith Farrell and produced by David Farrell, ‘The Lost Ship’ will include interviews with archaeologists and historians to piece together the story of the 24 Spanish ships sunk off the Irish coast in the late 16th century.
Director of Photography Chris O’Brien has been filming underwater footage off the coast of Donegal since 2010, having been granted exclusive access for the purposes of the documentary.
Production manager Laura Danaher told IFTN this week that Irish Arms are doing all the historical re-enactments from the late 16th century, following scenes shot onboard a replica ship in Bristol last week.
Among the characters set to feature are the Old Irish Ulster Chieftain Sorley Boy MacDonnell and Patrick Myagh, played by Frank Prendergast, a pirate who made his fortune robbing the Spanish ships.
As filming on the dramatic recreations wraps this weekend, production will next week move to Göttingen University in Germany, home to a rare old map which will feature in the documentary.
Post production will commence at the end of October until February, and the documentary is expected to air on TG4 later next year.
