‘Moone Boy’ - Chris O’Dowd’s uniquely Irish comedy series filmed in Boyle, Co. Roscommon - has been nominated for an International Emmy award for Best Comedy, it has been announced at MIPCOM.
Also of Irish interest is the nomination for Best TV Movie/Mini-Series for Channel 4’s political thriller ‘Secret State’, which starred Gabriel Byrne as the British Prime Minister alongside IFTA-winning ‘Love/Hate’ actress Ruth Negga.
Recently seen in ‘World War Z’, Ms Negga has also secured a recurring role in Joss Whedon’s Avengers spin-off ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ and will appear opposite Michael Fassbender in Steve McQueen’s ‘12 Years A Slave’.
‘Moone Boy’, which won the IFTA for Best Entertainment programme this year, recently wrapped production on its third season - with O’Dowd making his directorial debut and helming all six episodes himself.
Season two, which premiered at the Sky Cat Laughs festival in Kilkenny, will begin on Sky One this Autumn – with new roles this series for Amy Huberman, Bressie and Pat Shortt.
As Italia 90 World Cup fever grips Boyle, upcoming storylines range from Martin falling in love with a traveller girl to a religious-themed stag party and a Halloween river raft adventure.
‘Moone Boy’ is a co-production between Baby Cow Productions, Grand Pictures, Sprout Pictures and Hot Cod Productions.
The International Emmy award winners will be unveiled on 25th November at the Hilton Hotel in New York.
