Irish web-drama ‘Cuckoo’ has received two nominations in the prestigious Lovie Awards - the series has been nominated in the Music and Entertainment category, as well as being in the running for the overall People’s Lovie Award, and needs public votes to push it through the final stage.

The 28-minute drama, which was originally commissioned as part of RTÉ’s Storyland series and went on to win a nomination for ‘Best Online Drama’ at the 2013 ‘Webby’ Awards, follows Irish teenager Niamh Keegan after she recognizes herself in a digitally aged photo of a missing child.

Pagan McGrath (‘Titanic: Blood and Steel’) takes the lead, with an impressive cast rounded out by Brian Fortune, who played Bowen Marsh in HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, and IFTA-winning actress Denise McCormack of ‘Love/Hate’ fame.

The series soundtrack - which features music from the Fox Avenue, La Galaxie and more – will be judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, as well as a panel consisting of actor Stephen Fry, Tweetdeck founder Iain Dodsworth and musician Imogen Heap.

The second category however, which aims to “recognise the unique and resonant nature of the European internet community’, relies on public votes in order to select the winner from its list of nominees, with ‘Cuckoo’ currently placing second of all nominations.

To see ‘Cuckoo’ win this year’s People’s Lovie Award, voters can click through to the Lovie website and find the series under the Internet and Video/Music and Entertainment section. Voting closes on Thursday the 10th of October. The third Lovie Awards will take place in London on the 13th November 2013.

Directed by Dannan Breathnach and adapted from an original story by Nikki Raklin, ‘Cuckoo’ was produced by Marie Caffrey at Zanzibar Films. The web-drama screened at Marseille Webfest just last weekend, and will also appear at the upcoming Geneva International Film Festival, set to run from the 31st October to 7th of November.
