Irish producer Cormac Fox (‘King of the Travellers’, ‘Dark By Noon’) has been selected for the prestigious ACE training programme, to run from October 2013 to December 2014.
The ACE centre (‘Ateliers du cinema européen’) was established in 1993 by a collective of seasoned European producers, with an eye to assisting up-and-coming producers by providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to further the cause of independent cinema in European territories.
The programme has seen over 200 independent producers pass through since its foundation, and many Irish alumni of the programme have gone on to swell the ranks of the ACE producers network.
One of 16 producers selected from 11 European countries, Mr. Fox was chosen alongside his project ‘Sarajevo Calling’ (written by Jonathan Ellen), a darkly comic telling of the true story of Bosnia’s first entry in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Speaking about his selection and what it means for the feature, Cormac dubbed it “a fantastic opportunity for me as a producer but also a significant step in the realization of ‘Sarajevo Calling’, a story that is a true testament to the triumph of the human spirit in the darkest of days.”
Former Irish Film Board CEO Simon Perry currently serves as chairman on the multinational ACE committee. For more information on the scheme, visit their website
