Colin Farrell's romantic fantasy ‘Winter’s Tale’, set in a mythical New York and directed by Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, has secured a highly-coveted Valentine’s Day release in the US.
Farrell plays an Irish burglar who breaks into the house of a dying woman (Downton Abbey’s Jessica Brown Findlay) and ends up falling in love with her.
Based on the book by Mark Helprin, ‘Winter’s Tale’ features such fairytale elements as a flying white horse and an impressive cast including Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, William Hurt, Matt Bomer and Eva Marie Saint.
Akiva Goldsman, who also scripted the film, won an Oscar for his screenplay for ‘A Beautiful Mind’ in 2001 and counts among his credits such films as ‘I Am Legend’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, ‘Cinderella Man’ and ‘A Time to Kill’.
Producers on the film include Goldsman, Marc Platt, Michael Tadross and Tony Allard, for Warner Bros/Village Roadshow.
Colin Farrell recently filmed Miss Julie’, co-starring Jessica Chastain, at Castle Coole in Co Fermanagh earlier this year and he will soon be seen in ‘Saving Mr Banks’ about the author of Mary Poppins and her working relationship with Walt Disney, played by Tom Hanks.
Farrell is currently shooting ‘Solace’, about a psychic working with the FBI to hunt down a serial killer, along with Anthony Hopkins and Abbie Cornish.
