Independent film producer Christine Vachon - whose credits include ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ and ‘Far From Heaven’ - will give a Masterclass for Irish filmmakers in Filmbase, Temple Bar, this 3rd September with tickets on sale now.
Topics to be covered include Ms Vachon’s producing career to date; the changing face of independent cinema globally; the emerging importance of social media and new platforms of delivery for producers; strategies for engaging with festivals, agents and distributors; and surviving as an independent producer.
An acclaimed author, Ms Vachon has written the bestsellers ‘A Killer Life: How An Independent Producer Survives Deals And Disasters In Hollywood And Beyond’ and ‘Shooting To Kill: How An Independent Producer Blasts Through The Barriers To Make Movies That Matter’.
‘Boys Don’t Cry’ won the Oscar for Best Actress for Hilary Swank in 2000 and 'Far From Heaven' was nominated for four Oscars in 2003.
Since founding Killer Films in 1995, Ms Vachon has produced over 70 independent feature films including ‘One Hour Photo’; ‘Kids’; ‘Hedwig and the Angry Itch’; ‘Happiness’; ‘Velvet Goldmine’; ‘Safe’; ‘I Shot Andy Warhol’; and Bob Dylan biopic ‘I’m Not There’.
