Ardal O’Hanlon, beloved by millions as Dougal in ‘Father Ted’, is set to return to Channel 4 with ‘London Irish’ another Irish-themed comedy, which follows the lives of four Northern Ireland ex-pats living in London
The series is written by Derry playwright Lisa McGee, writer and creator of RTE’s ‘Raw’ and the original stage play of ‘Jump’, which Kieron J. Walsh recently adapted for the big screen.
O’Hanlon will play the father of Kerr Logan (‘Game of Thrones’) and Sinead Keenan (Being Human), with Peter Campion and Kat Reagan co-starring as the pals Patrick and Niamh who emigrated with him.
In recent years, O’Hanlon has starred in RTE comedy ‘Val Falvey TD’ and appeared in ‘Skin’ and ‘Doctor Who’, while enjoying continuing international success on the stand-up comedy circuit.
‘London Irish is a fresh, cheerfully outrageous, no-limits comedy,’ O’Hanlon said of the series. ‘There isn't a taboo that goes unexplored. I'm delighted to play Da, who's oblivious to all that. The writing is fearlessly funny and the cast ridiculously charismatic.’
Lisa McGee has also scripted episodes for ‘The White Queen’, ‘Being Human’, and ‘Totally Frank’.
'London Irish' is produced by Company Pictures and executive-produced by Caroline Leddy and Liz Lewin.
Filming on the Channel 4 series wrapped last week, with an air date scheduled for this autumn.
