‘Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God’ - which won the IFTA for Best Feature Documentary this year - has been sold to several international broadcasters and Netflix (UK) and in a series of major deals by international distributor Content Media.

The Irish Film Board-funded documentary, which highlights abuses within the Catholic Church and a cover-up by the Vatican, is directed by Alex Gibney and produced by Trevor Birney, Eimhear O'Neill and Ruth O'Reilly.

Content Media announced newly-closed deals with the following international broadcasters: German and French network Arte; Canada (CBC); Finland (YLE); Denmark (DR); Sweden (SVT); Israel (DBS); Latin America (HBO Ole); the Netherlands (HBO); and Netflix who acquired digital rights for the UK.

‘Mea Maxima Culpa’ is produced by Belfast’s Below the Radar Films, Jigsaw Productions and Wider Film Projects and backed by the Irish Film Board.

The documentary was nominated for five Emmy awards last week, with director and writer Alex Gibney shortlisted for ‘Outstanding Writing For Nonfiction Programming’ and ‘Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming.’

The other nominations were for Director of Photography Lisa Rinzler; Editor Sloane Klevin for ‘Outstanding Picture Editing For Nonfiction Programming’; and composers Ivor Guest and Robert Logan for Outstanding Music Composition For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special (Original Dramatic Score).
