‘Game of Thrones’ - HBO’s epic fantasy series filmed in Paint Hall Studio in Belfast - has received 16 nominations in total at this year’s Emmy awards - with Irish nominees also featuring strongly for ‘Mea Maxima Culpa’, ‘the Borgias, and ‘Vikings’.
Ronan Hill, Belfast-based production mixer, was nominated for ‘Game of Thrones’ episode ‘And Now His Watch is Ended’ - in the category ‘Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour)’.
Donal Woods, Irish production designer, was nominated for Downton Abbey Episode 7 for ‘Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-Camera Series’.
‘Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God’, which won the IFTA award this year for Best Feature Documentary, was also recognised in five categories.
A co-production between Jigsaw Productions, Wider Film Projects and Below The Radar Films, ‘Mea Maxima Culpa’ was produced by Eimhear O'Neill, Trevor Birney and Ruth O'Reilly.
Director and writer Alex Gibney was nominated for ‘Outstanding Writing For Nonfiction Programming’ and ‘Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming.’
Other nominations included Lisa Rinzler, Director of Photography; Editor Sloane Klevin for ‘Outstanding Picture Editing For Nonfiction Programming’; and composers Ivor Guest and Robert Logan for Outstanding Music Composition For A Miniseries, Movie Or A Special (Original Dramatic Score).
The Bible, produced by Northern Ireland’s Roma Downey and Mark Burnett for the History Channel, also received three nominations.
