Filmbase students of the Masters in Digital Feature Film Production have seen their graduating film ‘How to be Happy’ sell out its first screening at the Galway Film Fleadh this year and receive another to meet demand – scheduled for Sunday 14th July, the closing day of the festival.
The film was scripted by Conor Horgan (‘100 Mornings’) who successfully worked with Filmbase students before on ‘Keys to the City’ which debuted at the Galway Film Fleadh last year.
‘How to be Happy’ stars Brian Gleeson and Gemma-Leah Devereux in the comedy tale of a relationship counsellor who starts sleeping with his clients and a private investigator named Flor who specialises in luring married men into honey-trap situations.
Alan Fitzpatrick, Managing Director of Filmbase, said: ‘The film sold out so fast that many of the students involved couldn’t get tickets to their own film. We were delighted the Fleadh were able to create a second screening to help meet demand. Students from the production have already begun fielding requests from international sales agents – which is an incredible place for them to be in before they have even graduated from the programme.’
‘How to be Happy’ wrapped filming in Dublin this Easter, as the second feature film to emerge from the Masters in Digital Feature Film Production run between Filmbase and Staffordshire University in the UK.
The film’s cast includes Stephen Mullan (‘Out of Here’), Laura Way (‘Anton, Opus K’), Brian Fortune (‘Game of Thrones’), Carrie Crowley (‘Rásaí na Gaillimhe’), Rebekah Wainwright (‘The Tudors’), Lesley Conroy (‘Life's a Breeze’), Steve Gunn (‘Titanic: Blood and Steel’), Geraldine McAlinden (‘Portrait of a Zombie’) and Lesa Thruman (‘Quirke’).
Filmbase is currently enrolling for the next intake of the course in September, during which another feature film will be produced and released.
