This year’s Galway Film Fleadh boasts a wide selection of special events and seminars specifically geared towards professionals in the film and TV industry.
The following is a selection of highlights, compiled by IFTN:
'The Marketplace': 12 & 13th July, Radisson Blu Hotel
The Marketplace coordinates pre-scheduled meetings between filmmakers with projects in development and/or completed films.
Producers with feature film/documentary projects are afforded the opportunity to showcase their work to leading film buyers, distributors, sales agents, funders and more.
'The Real Deal': Thursday 11th July, Radisson Blu Hotel
A joint initiative between the Galway Film Fleadh and the Irish Film Board, the Real Deal is a full day conference boasting a range of industry sessions and keynote speakers.

'Nightmare Scenario', a free event on Friday 12th July from 3.15- 6.15pm, Cinemobile (located beside the Town Hall Theatre)
Producer-training organisation ACE, Screen Training Ireland & the Irish Film Board present an interactive workshop or ‘Nightmare Scenario’, in the form of a case-study of a real film which encountered serious problems during production.
Herbert Schwering, of Coin Film in Cologne, who worked on ‘The Invention of Love’, will describe the difficulties the film encountered and how the project was ultimately salvaged in a new form.
Mr Schwering will be interviewed before and after the screening by Simon Perry, President of ACE (Ateliers du Cinéma Européen).
The workshop is a professional event open to all festival delegates free of charge and is aimed primarily at producers but directors, writers and other film industry members are also welcome.
‘The Invention of Love’, directed by Lola Randl, will also be screened outside the Galway Film Fleadh programme selection.
'Fleadh Auction' in aid of the Solas Picture Palace Galway: Saturday July 13th at 4.30pm, Radisson Blu Hotel
This auction will raise funds for the restoration of the much-loved Solas Picture Palace cinema in Galway.
Auctioneer James Heaslip and actress Fionnula Flanagan will host the event, which will feature cinema memorabilia from around the world.
The Picture Palace is currently undergoing construction work and when finished will contain three cinemas, a café, bar, a film/art book & DVD shop and online film archive facility.
'Pitching Awards'
A recent success story for the Pitching Awards was Paul Fraser's ‘My Brothers’ in 2010, which began life as a 500 word pitch by writer Will Collins.
Success at the Pitching awards acted as a springboard for Collins' project to secure funding from the Film board, with the film going on to feature at festivals around the world, including New York's Tribeca.
The Pitching Awards is a live event where five short-listed applicants pitch an idea for a film to a panel of industry experts – and the winner receives €3,000 to use whatever way they choose.
'How to Build Your Low Budget Film Franchise': €25, Wednesday July 10th from 2- 4pm, Radisson Blu Hotel
In association with beActive International, this filmmaking masterclass is presented by Emmy-nominated producer Triona Campbell, social media guru and games supervisor Filipa Almedia and director Jason Butler.
’Collider’ - a new transmedia franchise based on the idea of ‘Terminator meets Lost’ - will be discussed, which now spans a graphic novel, YouTube web series, two mobile games and a feature film directed by Jason Butler, shot in Dublin and Kildare.
BeActive is the production company behind transmedia series ‘Sofia’s Diary’ and ‘Aisling’s Diary’.

'Canon Cinema EOS System Seminar': Free, Saturday July 13th from 12.30-1.30pm, Radisson Blu Hotel.
Director of Photography Steve O’Reilly, in association with Canon Ireland, will present a seminar on the Canon Cinema EOS System.
Mr O’Reilly has 18 years experience shooting and directing TV series, feature length documentaries and commercials, and has shot extensively on Cinema EOS since its arrival in 2012.
The seminar will deliver insight into his experience shooting with the cinema EOS System including: EOS C300, EOS C100, EOS 1DC and the EOS 5D Mark III as well as the latest in Canon CINE-Lenses.

'Short Film Script Workshop': Saturday July 13th from 11am – 1pm , Studio Space in the Town Hall Theatre.
The OFFline Film Festival are hosting this workshop, featuring as panelists Oscar-nominated filmmaker Steph Green; film festival strategist Kathleen McInnis; and award-winning Offaly screenwriter and playwright Eugene O’Brien.
Filmmakers will receive expert advice on how to best prepare their scripts before venturing into production, with writers of all backgrounds welcome.
OFFline competitors in October are also encouraged to submit their short film script to the OFFline Filmmaking Competition before 5th July.
