Sci-fi blockbuster ‘Our Robot Overlords’ - starring Ben Kingsley & Gillian Anderson - is currently shooting scenes at Carrickfergus castle in Co Antrim, between June 24-28th, before production moves to the Isle of Man.
The film is helmed by director Jon Wright whose last feature ‘Grabbers’ was nominated for four IFTAs (Best Film, Best Script and Best Supporting Actress) and won the IFTA for Best Film Actress for Ruth Bradley.
Northern Ireland Screen partly funded ‘Our Robot Overlords’, along with the Pinewood Group, Isle of Man Film, Umbra Telegraph, Northern Ireland Screen and the BFI film fund.
The apocalyptic tale, based around a war between humans and robots from another galaxy, marks Wright’s second collaboration with producers Piers Tempest and Ian Flooks (‘Killing Bono’).
Gillian Anderson was most recently seen in BBC Northern Ireland’s ‘The Fall’, in which she plays a detective on the trail of a serial killer in Belfast - which was recently commissioned for a second season.
Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley starred in this summer’s ‘Iron Man 3’ and will soon return to the sci-fi genre in ‘Ender’s Game’ with Harrison Ford.
‘Our Robot Overlords’ is produced by Tempo Productions Limited and also stars Callan McAuliffe (‘The Great Gatsby’) and Ella Hunt (‘Les Miserables’).
The plot is set three years after Earth has been conquered by a robot invasion, with all humans confined to their homes or controlled by an implant.
When a teenage boy discovers a way to disable the implants, he heads off in search of his long lost father and discovers a secret that could lead to the robots’ destruction.
’Our Robot Overlords’ is expected to arrive in cinemas in 2014.
