Following Roddy Collins’ 2003 IFTA winning documentary series about managing Carlisle United, Setanta Sports are airing ‘Return Of The Rod Squad’ – focusing on Collins’ tenure at Monaghan United – starting this Monday 10th June.
After seven years in the in the footballing wilderness, Collins’ latest sporting venture led Monaghan to promotion from Division One with the documentary covering his team’s preparations for the Premier League.
As an observational documentary of an Irish domestic football season, the series was granted access to all areas in Gortakeegan stadium and met long-time club volunteers Padraig Cassidy, Mary White and Patsy Brosnan behind the scenes.
Several unexpected twists and turns feature throughout, as the programme celebrates the ways in which Monaghan United provides a focal point for the local community.
A Loosehorse production supported by the BAI, the series was directed by Cormac Hargaden & Fintan Walsh, scripted by Denis Walsh, narrated by Tom Dunne, and produced by Cormac Hargaden and Trisha Canning.
