‘Citadel’ has Irish Cinema Release Date Pushed Back to 21st June
28 May 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
Citadel's Irish cinema release postponed to 21st June.
Dublin director Ciarán Foy’s psychological horror ‘Citadel’ has had its Irish cinema release date delayed by a week to 21st June, only heightening the anticipation for a film which has taken US cinemas and film festivals around the world by storm.

Since its triumphant world premiere at the SXSW in Austin, Texas last year, where it won the Midnighters Audience Award, Citadel’s rise has been unstoppable – winning Best Debut Feature at the Galway Film Fleadh and a host of other honours.

The long list of awards ‘Citadel’ has picked up to date include Best Feature at the Imagine Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival; the Audience award at the Paris International Fantastic Film Festival 2012; the Audience award at the Sheffield International Horror Film Festival 2012; Best Horror at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2012; and Best Director and Best Actor at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival 2012 in South Korea.

Regular IFTN readers need no further introduction to the film which is inspired by Mr Foy’s experience aged 18 of being mugged by a gang of youths - reimagined for the big screen as terrifying feral children.

Mr Foy described his excitement ahead of the film’s Irish cinema release:

‘It's really great that my debut feature film ‘Citadel’ is finally being released in Ireland. Particularly in Dublin, the city that in many ways gave birth to the story. This comes after the film has literally travelled around the globe and the response it has received has been amazingly. It received a theatrical release in the US last November and is doing great on DVD and digital platforms over there. All the same, there's a sense of satisfying completion about showing it on home ground and I can't wait for audiences to experience the terror,’ he said.

The film was produced by Katie Holly of Blinder Films and supported by the Irish Film Board and Creative Scotland.
