‘X-Files’ star Gillian Anderson’s detective skills are proving as effective against Belfast serial killers as extra-terrestrials, with her latest drama ‘The Fall’ being renewed for a second series to again be filmed in Northern Ireland.
The Belfast-shot drama premiered with the highest ratings for a drama series on BBC Two in eight years, prompting the early decision to green-light the show’s continuation.
BBC Two controller Janice Hadlow and BBC’s Controller of Drama Ben Stephenson formally renewed the series, with news that the scripts for season 2 were already written in preparation.
The show is written and created by Allan Cubitt ('Murphy's Law'), and stars Gillian Anderson as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson on the trail of a serial killer and sexual predator played to chilling effect by Jamie Dornan.
‘The Fall’ is an Artists Studio/BBC Northern Ireland co-production, funded by Northern Ireland Screen, and features several Irish actors in supporting roles including Simon Delaney, Séainín Brennan, Michael McElhatton and Ian McElhinney
It can be seen on RTE One on Sundays at 9:30pm, BBC Two on Mondays at 9pm, and all five episodes will be available to view on US Netflix from 28th May.
Principal photography on season 2 is expected to resume in Belfast in January 2014.
