'Vikings' Season 2 recruiting an army of extras.
‘Vikings’ hero Ragnar Lothbrok is recruiting an army of paid extras for filming of Season 2 of the epic History Channel series this summer, and has his sights set on Wicklow and Dublin, this 5-7th June.

Anyone who has spent months cultivating an unkempt beard or practising with a plastic sword in preparation for battle, your time has come.

• Wicklow’s open casting day is Wednesday 5th June at the Grand Hotel, Abbey Street in Wicklow Town, from 11am - 6pm.

• Dublin casting will follow at Filmbase, Curved Street in Temple Bar on Thursday 6th June, 11am - 6pm, and Friday 7th June, 9:30am - 5pm.

Men and women without beards are also in high demand, with the call out for adults from all ethnic backgrounds, shapes and sizes - with preference given to anyone with relevant skills including fishermen, sailors, carpenters, butchers, craftspeople, blacksmiths and anyone who can wield a sword, axe or bow.

Octagon Films (‘The Tudors’, ‘Camelot’) will be shooting another 10 episodes of the hit series in and around Ashford studios, Wicklow, this summer.

Although season one has still not been shown on TV on this side of the Atlantic, Irish producers Morgan O’Sullivan and James Flynn shepherded the show to huge ratings in the US, where its premiere garnered 8.3 million viewers.

Michael Hirst, creator of The Tudors, wrote and created the series, which was the first scripted drama ever commissioned by the History Channel in the US.

Several past IFTA-winners are counted among the cast and crew including director Ciarán Donnelly (The Tudors, Titanic: Blood and Steel); production designer Tom Conroy; costume designer Joan Bergin; and make-up and hair designers Tom McInerney and Dee Corcoran.

Those attending the auditions need only be legally permitted to work in Ireland and further enquiries can be directed to 040478758.

Email enquiries (but not photos or CVs) can be sent to: vikingextras@gmail.com

‘Vikings’ is an Irish-Canadian co-production between Octagon Films, Take 5 Productions and World 2000 Entertainment.

There are no details yet on an Irish or UK air date for ‘Vikings’ season one, but it’s only a matter of time with MGM onboard as international distributors.
