Mixed Bag Media will begin principal photography on a feature film adaptation of PJ Curtis’ novel ‘A Nightingale falling’ this July in Daingean, Co Offaly - starring Tara Breathnach, Muireann Bird and Gerard McCarthy.
The film, which is set against the backdrop of war-torn 1920’s Ireland, will be directed by Garret Daly and produced by Martina McGlynn, with period costume designs by Meritta Gorman-Geoghegan.
The plot follows a household and its inhabitants as they become caught up in the politics, cruelties and hardships of the time - in a tale of love, dark secrets and broken hearts.
Ms McGlynn praised the film’s impressive cast, who bring the combined strengths of their careers in film, TV and theatre to the project.
‘We are so excited to have such an exciting group of actors join this film. Their combined talents and experience makes this a mouthwatering prospect for this story. It’s a powerful drama and I’m in no doubt that audiences will be in for something special from these performers,’ she said.
Tara Breathnach is currently starring in ‘The Last Days of Anne Boleyn’ on BBC 2, with past credits including ‘The Tudors’, ‘Jack Taylor’, ‘Ros na Rún’ and TG4's ‘Scéal’.
Muireann Bird has just completed a UK and Irish tour of Brian Friel’s ‘Translations’, while Gerard McCarthy is presently starring in BBC’s Belfast crime thriller ‘The Fall’.
