Irish feature film ‘Beat Girl’ - produced by beActive, the company behind ‘Sofia’s Diary’ - will officially be launched in the IMC Dun Laoghaire this Friday 10th May and across a range of multimedia platforms.
Adopting a revolutionary transmedia model, ‘Beat Girl’ will span multiple forms of media including film, web series, video play list, eBook, book, CD sound track, Spotify play list and iPhone game – with Electus recently acquiring the format rights for the North American market.
Shot in Dublin last year, the film was directed by Mairtin de Barra, produced by Triona Campbell and Nuno Bernardo, and executive produced by John Mc Donald, based on a script written by Susanna Traves, Nuno Bernardo and Melanie Martinez.
It will be released on the same day in Ireland, UK and Portugal this Friday 10th May, followed by a US release on Hulu on 19th May.
Among the platforms on which it will be available, as video on demand, are iTunes, 4oD, Virgin Media, ee and Talk Talk.
‘Beat Girl’ is a coming-of-age story about a young girl, played by Louise Dylan, who is torn between following her late mother’s dreams of her securing a place in the Julliard Performing Arts School and becoming a world class pianist in the world of electronic dance music.
The beActive project was made available on Pinterest last year, as the first scripted series on the social networking site, and the original TV and film rights are being sold internationally by Content Media.
The ‘Beat Girl’ deal is the second US format sale for beActive, which previously sold the format rights for another multiplatform series ‘Sofia’s Diary to Sony Pictures and Television in LA.
The transmedia project was financed by section 481 and the Portuguese state bank FICA fund.
