An Irish/Northern Irish co-production between Double Z Enterprises and Waddell Media, the series was filmed in Dublin and will star Sharon Mannion and Strawberry Alarm Clock DJ Jim Jim Nugent alongside PJ Gallagher’s rogues’ gallery of eccentric characters.
'Trojan Donkey is a fresh take on the hidden camera show with irreverence at its core,’ said Laura Riseam, assistant editor of Channel 4 Comedy. ‘We’re proud to be developing a new wave of talent and Trojan Donkey gives the genre a real kick up the backside.'
The original ‘Naked Camera’ ran for three series on RTE from 2005 to 2007 and made PJ Gallagher a household name as he duped members of the public with his hilarious personas.
It won the IFTA award for Best Entertainment Programme in 2008 and was nominated again in the same category the following year.
Naked Camera’s Jake Stevens - as acted by Gallagher - got his own spin off show in the USA called ‘Makin' Jake’ and released a Christmas single ‘Merry Christmas Jakey Boy’ that reached the top 10 in the Irish charts in 2006.
‘Trojan Camera’ will mark Gallagher’s first appearance on UK TV and introduce a host of new characters along with returning favourites Fixer the taxi driver, Jumper Man and Auld Gran.
PJ Gallagher also previously collaborated with fellow Irish comedian Jason Byrne in co-writing BBC Northern Ireland's ‘The I Hate Show’.
Dublin-based Double Z Prooductions are best known as the production company behind The Zig & Zag show, the Podge & Rodge show, and the Bronx Bunny show.
‘Trojan Donkey’ will air on Channel 4 this summer.
