BAI Releases Successful Applicants for Round 17 of Sound and Vision II

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has released its latest funding list of successful applicants to the Sound and Vision II scheme – with 23 TV productions awarded funding across RTE, TV3, TG4, UTV, DCTV and CCTV.

Sound & Vision II was established to provide funding in support of high quality programmes on Irish culture, heritage and experience, and programmes to improve adult literacy, with the most recent deadline of 31 January this year.

‘Barney Bunion'- produced by Cul a’ Tigh Teoranta for TG4 - was awarded the highest amount of funding at €530,000.

‘Pursuit’, a new TV3 drama produced by An Pointe Productions, was awarded the second largest sum at €500,000.

This was followed by ‘Wild’, a drama produced by Treasure Entertainment for RTE One at €350,000 ; ‘Bottler’, an animation for TV3 by Keg Kartoonz Limited at €315,000; and ‘Ireland's Oceans’, an RTE One documentary produced by Sea Fever Productions Ltd, at €235,000.

The remainder of the top 10 consisted of:

•‘GIG - An Gaeilgeoir is Greannmhaire’ (Good Company Productions) for TG4 at €230,000;
•TG4 Animation ‘Tea With The Dead – Life, Death and a Packet of Digestives’ (Wigglewoo Ltd) at €205,000;
•‘Deirfiúracha na hEolaíochta (Sisters of Science) - (DoubleBand Films) - an RTE One documentary at €150,000;
•‘The Short Way Home: A History of Irish Golf’ (Tilted Pictures Ltd) - TV documentary for Setanta Sports at €148,000;
•'After Braveheart' (Tile Films) - an RTE One documentary at €133,000.

Rounding out the list were the following productions:

•‘Doing Time – Prison Families’ (Motive Television) - TV3 - €125,000.
•‘A Doctor's Sword’ (Gambit Pictures Limited) - TV3 documentary - €119,000
•‘Lockout’ (Ferndale Films Limited) - Documentary for TG4 - €95,000
•‘Nancy Corrigan Eitleoiracla’ (Gmarsh TV Productions) - TG4 documentary - €93,000
•‘Girl on the Undercard’ (Loosehorse Limited) - Documentary for Setanta Sports - €85,000
•‘Men in Black’ (Aeterno Productions) - a documentary for Setanta Sports - €85,000
•‘Páidí Ó Sé – Rí an Pharóiste’ (Magamedia Teo) - Documentary for TG4 - €72,000
•‘Autumn Leaves’ (John Kelleher Media) – TV3 Documentary - €70,000
•‘Against the Wind’ (Picture Town Media Limited) - Setanta Sports - €65,000
•‘Soul of the Arctic’ (Evergreen Media limited) - UTV Documentary - €56,402.50
•‘From Coolea to Iona’ (Dónal Ó Céilleachair t/a Anú Pictures) - RTE One documentary - €51,000
•‘The Inquiry’ (DCTV) - TV drama for DCTV - €45,000
•‘The Doneraile Conspiracy’ (Cork Community Television) - documentary for CCTV - €29,000
•‘Culture Night TV 2013’ (NEAR 90fm/Near TV) - for DCTV - €26,000
