The Oireachtas Media Awards – an annual celebration of Irish language achievement in acting, journalism, presenting and programming – will take place in the Galway Bay Hotel on 17th May, at an event presented by RTE newsreader Aengus Mac Grianna.
Among the nominees are IFTA-winning documentary film ‘Lón sa Spéir’ which goes head to head against IFTA-nominated ‘Lorg na gCos - Súil Siar ar Mise Éire’ in the Feature Programme of the Year category.
Meanwhile, broadcaster Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh is nominated for Actor of the Year for her acting debut as Maeve Kelly-Clarke in TG4’s ‘Crisis Eile’.
Liam Ó Maolaodha, Director of the Oireachtas Media Awards praised the strength of the Irish language sector in keeping afloat during tough financial times.
‘Although Irish language media has experienced cutbacks in the past year, it still continues to be a vibrant and creative sector. Technology has enabled it to evolve, and Irish speakers have been extraordinarily adept at exploiting these opportunities,’ he said.
Arts programme ‘Imeall’, produced by Red Shoe Productions, will also compete with documentary series ‘Rónán ar an Camino’ for Television Series of the Year.
Nominated for Television Personality of the Year are RTÉ/TG4 Nuacht reporter Seán Mac an tSíthigh and Dara Ó Cinnéide, former Kerry football captain for ‘Seó Spóirt’ on TG4.
Joining Ms Ní Chofaigh in the acting categroy are ‘Ros na Rún’ actors Tara Breathnach and Linda Bhreathnach, and Kelly Gough for TG4’s ‘Scúp’.
